Russell House

Russell House is a Grade II listed Georgian property located in East Kent. The house forms part of a group of historic buildings typical of the region’s refined Georgian architecture, characterised by balanced proportions, traditional masonry construction, and carefully detailed timber joinery.

Our brief was to sensitively restore and refurbish the property while ensuring its architectural character remained at the forefront of the project. Like many historic homes that have evolved over time, the building had been subject to a number of later alterations which had gradually diluted some of its original character.

The project therefore focused on carefully removing these unsympathetic changes and restoring the building in a manner that respected its Georgian heritage. Particular attention was given to masonry repairs, timber detailing, and conservation-appropriate construction techniques that would support the long-term health of the building’s historic fabric.

Internally, a number of considered layout adjustments were made to improve the circulation and functionality of key spaces while maintaining the integrity of the original structure. These changes allowed the house to work more comfortably as a modern home without compromising its period character.

Alongside the restoration works, new building services were introduced throughout the property, including updated heating and electrical systems. These upgrades were integrated discreetly to ensure modern comfort while remaining sympathetic to the historic fabric of the building.

The result is a carefully balanced refurbishment that preserves the elegance and craftsmanship of the original Georgian house while ensuring it continues to function effectively as a contemporary family home.
